Light up your life by witnessing perhaps the world’s most famous natural phenomenon up close. Yes, curious spectators have been captivated by the Northern Lights throughout history, and it’s not hard to see why. The shifting swirls of the Aurora Borealis envelop you as they illuminate the Arctic skies, performing beguiling dances of colour: twists and turns, bends and bows. Rolling. Spinning. Dancing. It’s a real feast for the eyes.
But the playful Aurora isn’t always flamboyant: it’s elusive. You’ll have to find it. And the search is all part of the excitement.
Fortunately, we know exactly where to go. We use a supplier that is a Lapland specialist with over four decades of experience, they know a thing or two about searching for the Aurora Borealis – that’s why the Northern Lights breaks we offer are based in uncommercial, True Lapland locations, where city light pollution doesn’t impair the intensity of the Northern Lights.
Additionally, all our holiday locations are based along the Official Northern Lights Route, a 600km route weaving through Lapland, recognised by the governments of Finland, Sweden and Norway as offering the best viewings of the Aurora.
Our short breaks of three or four nights in True Lapland are a perfect winter holiday for those looking to catch a display of the Northern Lights, and also experience a host of once-in-a-lifetime Arctic activities: mush a team of huskies across the Arctic tundra, drive a snowmobile down a frozen river or ride a reindeer sleigh through the snow-capped forest. Why not stay a night in an igloo too?
For a longer stay, you may like to consider a seven night Aurora Hunter holiday - contact us for details.
What to expect
Our Northern Lights holidays are arranged so that you can make the most of your time in Lapland and enjoy the extraordinary experiences offered in this very special corner of the world.
Your holiday begins with a morning flight to Enontekio Airport. Depart from one of many regional UK airports on our direct charter flight, exclusive to Transun. Enontekio Airport is a very small and yours is likely to be the only flight that day. From there, you make the transfer by motorcoach to a remote village. Transfer times vary depending on which village you are based in. Hetta is about 20 minutes from the airport while Karesuando, straddling Swedish and Finnish Lapland, is an hour away. Kilpisjarvi in northwesternmost Finland is a two-hour drive with a comfort stop. All our resorts are located perfectly on the Official Northern Lights Route.
Your included accommodation is on a full-board basis. We also provide you with thermal suits and boots for the duration of your stay, so you are well equipped for Lapland’s Arctic temperatures.
Although the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed, you’ll still have an amazing holiday thanks to the host of once-in-a-lifetime excursions which are included in this holiday. A full itinerary is given on arrival so it can be best organised around weather conditions and Northern Lights predictions.
