My travel essentials

Antiseptic hand gel, Rennies and my iPad goes everywhere with me, always working - even on holiday!

The first holiday I remember

Paris was my first trip abroad, a really early memory I must have been just 3- 4 yrs old. It was a coach trip with my parents, brother and sister.

Places you have travelled to

So many!

All across Europe, North Africa, Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taipei, Australia. Too many to list!

My ideal travel playlist

If flying I usually have some sounds, always a mixture of genres. From Everything but the girl to Yungblud to McFly, AC/DC,  Paul McCartney, all sorts really.

My ideal travel companion

My son Sam for longer trips and cruises, we are on the same wave-length and always have a lot of fun, and we both love rail travel anywhere (sorry Kev!)

For a cheeky weekend away, then my husband.

Most Memorable activity on holiday

Sydney harbour, 1999 New years celebrations. On a cruise on the harbour seeing the fireworks, wonderful memories.

The places I have yet to visit

So many, how to choose? New Zealand, Canada by rail, and an Alaskan Cruise are all on my bucket list. Closer to home I would love to visit The Orkney Islands.

We are official booking agents for hundreds of tour operators, suppliers and cruise operators.

My travel essentials

Definitely my diary, to document my journey. I’ve been keeping one since 2008. But a battery pack is always a good idea.

The first holiday I remember

Butlins, Pwllheli.

First holiday as an adult

First solo travel was to Iceland, new year, 1999. I think that was where my love of Nordic Travel comes from. I’d also like to think I went there before everyone else did!

My ideal travel playlist

My playlist are a list of what I was listening to and thinking at the time. I’d also like to think they were cool, but my wife and stepson would think otherwise. But Half Man Half Biscuit, Sleaford Mods, CMAT, Getdown Services.

My ideal travel companion

My wife, deffo. Probably more capable, rational and logical than I am. An expert at doing fun stuff for small amounts of cash.

Most Memorable activity on holiday

Snowmobiling in Lapland. Pure James Bond stuff, more so as it was mid-Winter, it was dark and the wind was blowing in my face.

The places I have yet to visit

I’d like more Nordic countries, or Australia or New Zealand.

We sat down with Michael and asked him some random travel questions 🙂

What was the first holiday you remember?

The first holiday I remember was France. We used to go to France every summer and stay in a villa. One year, we broke the mould and went to Portugal. I had many happy holidays as a kid!

What was your first trip as an adult?

First trip as an adult? I'm still a child🤣 Myself and a friend took our scooters down through France to the south coast. All that way on a little 180cc scooter was fun! We popped in to Spain as well just to tick off another country!

What was your first day trip?

We used to do day trips from Newhaven to Dieppe on the ferry every summer and I used to love them so much. The first day trip I did involving a plane was to Switzerland back in 2000 with easyJet. I stayed in the city of Zurich for the day exploring everywhere I could.

Who would be your ideal travel partner? My ideal travel partner would be any of my closest friends. They are all such amazing people and I really love their company when travelling.

What would be your ideal travel playlist?

I don't really have any specific songs, however, a perfectly timed playing of "Sky Full of Stars" when we got back in the car the first time I ever saw the Northern Lights in Iceland means that is my absolute favourite song!

Your favourite place to visit?

There isn't one favourite place, there are a few but each for different reasons. Maybe Iceland comes out on top, but Norway, Finland and of course, Switzerland are all up there. I must also put in a good word for Scotland and the Highlands. A purely magical place which I love so much!

Your most memorable activity?

Most memorable activities has to be the Alpine Roller Coaster in Churwalden, Switzerland. The Husky Dogs in Pyha, Finland and seeing the northern lights in Iceland for the first time will always stay with me as the most special thing ever.

Where would you like to go that you have yet to visit?

One of my closest friends' girlfriend is from El Salvador and that is one place that maybe one day I would love to go to!

Your travel essentials

Battery Pack, 360 degree camera, Vicks nasal un-blocker - travelling with a blocked nose can be painful!
